The recent massive Twitter attack by Donald Trump on former FBI Director James Comey can only be described as partisan and pathetic. Following Comey’s decision to reopen the investigation against Hillary Clinton during the end of the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump offered words of support and encouragement towards Comey. Trump even decided to keep Comey on as the FBI Director. All Trump needed for this decision was the belief that Comey’s actions against Clinton were a statement of loyalty to Trump. Once in power, Trump quickly realized that was not the case.

During Comey’s Senate testimony to be appointed as FBI Director under President Obama, the only Senator to vote against him was Rand Paul. That is quite a big deal considering only six Senators have ever voted against a nominee for FBI director. The other five voted against Trump’s nominee Christopher Wray in 2017, following Trump’s firing of Comey (https://www.cnn.com/2017/08/01/politics/fbi-director-history-no-votes/index.html). Through public statements and tweets, it is evident that Trump holds a grudge against his Attorney General Jeff Sessions for recusing himself in all Trump-Russia conspiracy investigations.

Why is Trump so upset over Sessions following the rule of law and recusing himself? That is evident now that Trump openly admits that he thought of Sessions as his protector. When Trump admitted that he “needs a Roy Cohn” it was evident he wanted someone who would violate the rule of law to protect Trump. Cohn, who worked as Joseph McCarthy’s chief counsel during McCarthy’s actual witch hunt against Americans, was later disbarred for unethical conduct.

It is now apparent that Donald Trump’s real goal in stealing the election was to further stuff his pockets with money, while relying on Sessions to protect him from any prosecution. It’s important to remember that Comey, as well as Special Counsel Robert Mueller, are lifelong Republicans that have served their country well, and are now dealing with twitter attacks from an illegitimate leader. We can sleep well knowing that we have individuals loyal to America going against a traitor to our country.
