Several stories and polls have been out declaring that Donald Trump will be re-elected in 2020. While this should certainly be alarming news, one must consider the source of them. Interestingly, “president” Trump’s favorite poll says something different. Rasmussen, which is often slanted toward Republicans, currently shows Donald Trump’s approval rating at 46%. That number is obviously a bit higher than some others; however, the same poll also reveals that only 35% “strongly approve” of the job he’s doing. As Bipartisan Report asks, “How is he supposed to win an election with those numbers?”

This latest poll has led Bipartisan Report to predict a 2020 “blue wave.” None of these numbers or reality itself will stop Trump from claiming that he will be reelected in 2020. He proclaimed during an October rally, in pertinent part, “The only message these radicals will understand is a crushing defeat on November 3, 2020!” As the song goes, don’t stop believing, Trump. He may have been a reality star prior to stealing the presidency, but now, he is completely grounded in non-reality. His chances of prevailing in 2020 are looking slimmer and slimmer by the day.

Adding to Trump’s woes, a Politico/Morning Consult poll shows a 9% increase in the number wanting Trump impeached and removed while other polls show a 3 to 4% increase. These numbers are real, much to “president” Trump’s chagrin. Adding to the validity of these numbers is an Atlanta Journal Constitution poll (from November) that shows Trump in deep trouble in three southern states: Louisiana, Georgia, and Texas and further adds that he is in trouble in Arizona and in Iowa, where his tariffs have created a full-blown disaster for farmers. All of these states are vital to Trump’s reelection. The same poll shows Joe Biden trouncing Trump 51% to 43%, “fueled by solid support from women and independents.”

Further, Trump’s “Black Voices for Trump” initiative has been an effort in futility. Third Way and the Joint Center recently assembled nine focus groups of black voters and non-voters according to Axios. Trump isn’t going to like the results. The focus groups found that black Americans displayed an increased motivation to vote in the next election because of “an intense opposition to President Trump and a belief that he ‘has been a disaster for our country.'” So much for “Black Voices for Trump.”

It sounds as if he should change it to “Black Voices Against Trump.” While Trump repeatedly touts the strong economy and low unemployment for blacks, most black people disagree. Axios shows that these focus groups revealed that only 22% of black Americans believe their financial situations have improved under Trump. Further, one in five black Americans said that they are having to work more than one job to make ends meet. So, unemployment may be down for black Americans, but what kinds of jobs are we securing to need more than one? The Democrats are wise to keep these numbers in mind and are currently courting black males, as this survey revealed that three times as many black men as women voted for Trump. It’s time to turn that tide and start the blue wave.
