They say that past performance is the best indicator of future behavior. So if you’re wondering whether Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio will end up cutting a cooperating plea deal in an effort to gain leniency on the criminal charges the DOJ just hit him with, all you have to do is look at the fact that Tarrio served as a government informant against the Proud Boys in years past.

In other words, Tarrio will surely flip again, once he concludes that he must do so; it’s just a matter of when. Usually in these instances, the “when” comes down to whether or not a defendant can get out on bail while awaiting trial. If bail is granted, a defendant might take his time in deciding whether to flip, in the hope that the case somehow falls apart before trial. If bail is denied, then the defendant will be siting behind bars until trial, and thus has a reason to cut a plea deal sooner rather than later.

That’s why it’s a big deal that the judge in the Tarrio case has just ordered him held without bail until his trial. This means Tarrio will be sitting in jail from now until whenever his trial takes place, perhaps six months from now or more. This gives him strong motivation to not only flip, but flip now, so he can at least be moved from jail to a comparatively cushy federal prison while he awaits his plea deal sentencing.

If Tarrio flipped once, he’ll flip again. So his denial of bail is bad news not just for him, but for whoever he ends up flipping on. Tarrio is friends with the likes of Roger Stone and Alex Jones, who were also visibly involved with January 6th, so we may soon find out what Tarrio has on them.
