Asleep at the wheel

By now it’s pretty clear how the Trump 2.0 regime operates. A senile Donald Trump sits at home and watches television all day while his various henchmen do whatever evil things they feel like trying to get away with. Trump doesn’t seem to know or care what any of them are doing, so long as 1) it keeps the base happy, and 2) Trump doesn’t have to get off the couch.
This explains why Elon Musk, who wasn’t elected to anything and doesn’t hold any real government position, has been able to spend the past three weeks running roughshod over the federal government in illegal and psychotic fashion. Trump doesn’t care. Why would he? He only ran in 2024 to avoid prison, and now that he’s won, he’s too worn down to want to do any of the work himself, and too addled to understand what’s going on anyway. And so Musk is getting away with essentially stealing the presidency from Trump and stealing personal data from the entire public.
The problem for Musk is that he’s the kind of attention hog that the narcissistic Trump hates, and he lacks the social skills to figure out that he needs to act subservient if he wants to remain on Trump’s good side. The old Trump would have started to run off Musk already. The fact that Musk still has a job is all the proof you need that Trump has dementia.
But now something has shifted. Trump looked visibly annoyed on Friday when he held a press conference with the Prime Minister of Japan, yet had to answer question after question from the media about Elon Musk’s antics. Shortly thereafter, Vanity Fair reported that Musk isn’t even bothering to inform Donald Trump or his White House about what he’s doing.
This isn’t anything we couldn’t have already surmised. But what stands out about this new report is that it’s sourced to inside the White House. This means that the Trump regime is now leaking to the media that Musk is doing things behind Trump’s back, presumably in the hope that Trump will see the headlines and turn against Musk. In other words, Trump’s babysitters in the White House are trying to get rid of Musk entirely.
We’ll see if it works. Donald Trump is so thoroughly asleep at the wheel, it’s difficult to guess what he might end up caring about or even remembering. But anyone who’s ever dealt with a dementia patient knows that you can plant any seed by repeating the same thing over and over until the dementia patient thinks it’s his own idea. Trump’s babysitters have the advantage of being with Trump all day every day. They just might be able to convince Trump that he hates Musk. If Trump and Musk were to go to war, let’s just say that while one of them is too senile to win a battle of wits, he’s also the President. It’s hard to imagine Musk winning such a clash.
