Angry. Scared. Worried. This is how women all across the country are describing how they feel about the midterm elections and Republicans possibly taking back power. And for women between the ages of 18-29, in battleground states, they are saying that for them, abortion is the most important issue.

That is what they told Lake research partners in new polling. The states included in this poll are Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, and New Hampshire, to name a few.

Katherine Spiller, the executive editor of Ms., had this to say: “Despite constant reports in the media on inflation and rising prices as the top issues in this election, abortion and women’s rights are actually the most important for young women as they head to the ballot box.”

She also had this to say: “The overturning of Roe V Wade has lit a fire under women voters, and especially young women voters, who have the power to determine close elections.”

This does not surprise me at all. And it’s true. Young women — you DO have the power. You have the power to tilt this country back TOWARD women, not away from them. You have the power to take back your independence, to silence the cruelty and misogyny hiding in plain sight.

Support for Equal rights is also high on the list of things motivating our young women. In this poll, 74 percent of women support the equal rights amendment. And 72 percent say it is personally important to THEM. It saddens me that we’re not hearing more in mainstream media about this.

It’s sad that women’s rights are not being treated with the seriousness they need to be. This is a republican war on women that we’re experiencing and the consequences of said war rely entirely on who can turn out their base.

The more people that show up — the higher our chances of winning. So please — let’s concentrate on turnout. We need to get and keep those numbers up. We need to win this war, and with the rising disgust at the GOP from women and the fire that’s been lit, I’d say this is now becoming a movement — a movement by women for women in the most important election of our generation.
