Earlier this week, former FBI Agent Peter Strzok filed suit to get his old job back, arguing that he was only fired because Donald Trump abused his position as President of the United States in order to make it happen. Now another recognizable name in the U.S. intel community is taking similar steps, for similar reasons.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is now bringing a wrongful termination suit of his own, arguing that then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray only forced him out in order to appease Donald Trump. McCabe’s case may be even more explosive than Strzok’s case, because Trump made a point of specifically forcing McCabe out shortly before he was set to retire, in order to spitefully cost McCabe his pension.

Two things stand out here with both these cases. First, Donald Trump’s own vicious and obsessive tweets about McCabe and Strzok essentially serve as a public confession on Trump’s part. So it should be easy for both men to argue in court that Trump did indeed force them out of a job for improper and personal reasons. Throw in the fact that both men were tasked at various points with investigating Trump’s criminal scandals, and the whole thing becomes even more blatant.

Second, with the glacial manner in which the courts tend to move on these things, both the Andrew McCabe case and the Peter Strzok case could end up reaching their crescendos during the height of the 2020 presidential election – meaning big headaches for Donald Trump.
