And so it begins

“Love.” Such a sweet word with such ramifications. And “Love” is, among other things, prominently featured in many Subaru commercials. But there may soon be OTHER words linked to buying a Subaru. “Subaru to announce price hikes.” This is because of Donald Trump’s tariffs. And so it begins.

This is just another chapter in America’s continuing story. It’s one of those chapters where one wants to rush to the end to see what happens. Only in this case, for now anyway, we know the ending. Price hikes, price hikes.

“Current market conditions.” The car maker gave this reason for the price hike. I don’t blame them. Subaru. Right now, we’re in the jungle fighting for survival, and that includes car manufacturers as well as every business, both big and small. It’s a jungle out there, and we’re the quarry.

The hunters, of course, are the Trump administration, which bungled the economy from day one in office. It stands to reason, I suppose, because the Trump administration is also woefully incompetent, as everyone, including Trump voters, are now finding out for themselves.

Subaru will add between $750 and $2,055 to specific makes and models. They will go into effect next month. There isn’t anything Trump can do about it. He rang the bell, and it made an ugly sound. He cannot now go back and unring it, nor does he seem at all interested in doing so.

The cost of tariffs ALWAYS falls on the American people. We have ample evidence of that. But still, the GOP defends him, attempting to convince people that up is down and right is left. Right will never be left because the left—us—cares about people, and we’re intelligent enough to know the cost of doing business as it relates to tariffs.

Tomorrow is another day. And so is the day after that, the day after that, and so on. One day, we will wake up in a brand new Dawn with a brand new sunrise that will signal the end of Trump’s reign of terror and callousness. One day, the dawn will glow and embrace us as we giddily acknowledge the end of Trumpism. Until that day comes, we must deal with the fallout—and the fallout for the GOP is looking bleaker and bleaker and bleakest with each passing day.
