So much for the notion that once-respected attorney Alan Dershowitz was cartoonishly kissing up to Donald Trump all this time just to get help with sales of his new book. Sure enough, Trump tweeted an advertisement for the book this past week, meaning Dershowitz is going to get plenty of money from book sales. But if that’s all there was to it, he’d be moving on by now. Instead. Dershowitz is cranking up the crazy in defense of Trump, and it’s time to ask what he’s really up to.

Alan Dershowitz went utterly and embarrassingly berserk on MSMBC on Sunday, as he got into a debate with former federal prosecutor Mimi Roach. After he made a dishonestly over-the-top defense of Trump’s latest criminal antics, and she called him out for it, he snapped. Dershowitz blurted out “Shame on you! I am making a civil liberties case, I am not part of the Trump defense team, and don’t you dare accuse me of doing that.” Uh, wait a minute here.

What did Alan Dershowitz just do? In one breath he marries himself to Donald Trump, and in the next breath he loses his mind because someone pointed out that he just married himself to Trump. It’s as if he’s being forced to publicly defend Trump, and he’s so resentful about his situation, he takes it out on anyone who points out the obvious. But what could force him into such a predicament?

By all accounts, Alan Dershowitz is a multimillionaire. So while he surely doesn’t mind making even more money from his new pro-Trump book, he didn’t need to sell himself out for money. Is it possible that Trump is blackmailing Dershowitz into coming to his defense? At this point, is there any other explanation that would even fit with how Dershowitz is behaving?
