Governor Phil Murphy has won reelection in New Jersey for a second term. It was a close race, but Murphy prevailed. He gave his victory speech Wednesday evening, and it was a great one. Murphy has an excellent voice for politics. (I also think Murphy could have had a career as a Kentucky Derby broadcaster with that voice.)

Governor Murphy’s speech was a rousing and celebratory one and was carried live. As of Thursday afternoon, his opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, had yet to concede. His spokesperson has declined comment. And this is the problem.

We seem to have a society these days where only one side comes with dignity and grace. We have a country in which only one party even admits they lost an election at all. That party is OUR party — the Democratic party.

I do believe this needs to be part of our messaging. The GOP are such snowflakes that now they cannot even acknowledge election results unless they win. This is about as unpatriotic as things get.

The GOP has done so much damage. They have desensitized many with all of their violent rhetoric. And what I do not want to see happen is the normalization of this type of behavior regarding election results.

We cannot allow abhorrent and abnormal behavior to be treated as if it were perfectly normal because it is far from that.

So, it’s essential that we show the American people that there is only one party — The Democratic party — who believes in America’s core values, her decency and the Constitution.
