If you’ve just been exposed as a key player in an international espionage and election meddling scandal which could bring your father-in-law President down, is it a good sign when your wife spends the day meeting with an attorney without you? That’s the question which Jared Kushner faces today, after Ivanka Trump spent part of her Memorial Day weekend meeting with an attorney.

That’s the word from NBC News, which revealed that Ivanka met with attorney Marc Kasowitz on Sunday (link). This stands out for a few reasons. Although the meeting took place at the White House, Kasowitz was recently hired by Donald Trump to personally represent him in the exploding Russia scandal. Second, there’s no mention of Jared Kushner having being involved in this meeting between Ivanka and Kasowitz. Third, there is nothing to suggest that Kasowitz is representing Kushner in the scandal.

So why is Ivanka Trump meeting with her father’s personal Russia scandal attorney, and why is she doing so with such haste that it had to take place during a holiday weekend, immediately after she got home from the overseas trip? Is she now handling her father’s personal affairs in such thorough fashion that it includes meeting with his attorney to discuss strategy?

Is this a conflict of interest if Ivanka is now meeting with an attorney who doesn’t represent her own husband in that same scandal? Which side is she on? If Donald Trump and Jared Kushner both end up facing obstruction of justice charges in the Russia scandal, which is entirely possible considering they conspired to fire FBI Director James Comey, how is this all going to play out? Kasowitz is representing Donald, Ivanka meeting with Kasowitz, and Jared will presumably be represented by some other attorney. Read into it what you will.
