Over the past few months, Donald Trump has been rapidly descending into senility. Medical professionals have debated as to whether it’s being caused by dementia, Alzheimer’s, a worsening of his existing psychological defects, or something else altogether – but the evidence of his senility is unmistakable. Now Trump is in the midst of putting on a bizarre display in which he literally can’t count to five any time he tries.

Here’s what Trump tweeted this evening: “Remember, the Republicans are 5-0 in Congressional races this year. In Senate, I said Roy M would lose in Alabama and supported Big Luther Strange – and Roy lost. Virginia candidate was not a ‘Trumper,’ and he lost. Good Republican candidates will win BIG!” There are so many alarming things going on here, it’s difficult to know where to begin. He’s clearly forgotten how to spell “Moore” so he’s dancing around it. He doesn’t seem to realize he’s admitting that the candidate he originally endorsed, Luther Strange, also lost. The really weird part, however, is the “5-0” claim.

Trump is referring to the five special elections that took place for U.S. House around the nation in the early part of 2017. Four of them were in deeply Republican districts, created when Trump plucked those existing Congressmen for his administration. Naturally, the Republicans won all four of them, but severely underperformed in every one of them. The fifth U.S. House special election was in a deeply Democratic district in California, and no Republican candidate even made it to the final ballot.

So the record in question is 4-1, not 5-0. Donald Trump doesn’t appear to know the California special election even took place, and he’s somehow counting the four special elections in Georgia, Kansas, Montana, and South Carolina as five special elections. That’s before getting to the fact that these all took place early in the year. Trump’s recent record is that his candidate lost in the deeply Republican state of Alabama, and his candidate got blown out in the moderate state of Virginia. Not only can he not help anyone win, he can’t even count to five anymore.
