Congressman Trey Gowdy has spent the past month acting guilty in the Trump-Russia scandal. Congressman Devin Nunes has spent the past year acting guilty in the Trump-Russia scandal. This doesn’t mean either one is guilty. But this month we learned that Michael Flynn informed the Trump transition team of his treasonous plot with Russia. It just so happens that Gowdy and Nunes were both on that transition team. Now Gowdy seems to be signaling that he thinks his idiot pal Nunes is going to take them both down with his ham fisted antics.
Not only have we learned that the Trump transition team knew about Flynn’s illegal activities, we’ve also learned that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has every email sent and received by the Trump transition team. If Gowdy or Nunes was in on the Trump-Russia plot, then Mueller is likely already sitting on enough evidence to take them down. It would certainly explain why both GOP Congressmen are working overtime to try to smear Mueller’s reputation and sabotage his investigation. But here’s where Gowdy and Nunes differ from each other.
We’ve seen that Gowdy and Nunes are both dishonest scumbags who will tell any lie necessary to carry out their goals. Gowdy spent years spreading vicious lies about Benghazi in the hope of falsely scandalizing Hillary Clinton. Nunes has spent all year spreading lies, and even leaking classified intel, to try to get Donald Trump off the hook in his Russia scandal. The difference is that Gowdy is fairly good at it. He lost his battle with Hillary, but he bloodied her up enough to damage her presidential bid. Nunes, on the other hand, is a self-defeating idiot.
Trey Gowdy has had the sense to smear Robert Mueller the best he can, without accidentally incriminating himself in the process. Devin Nunes has been making such ridiculous and illegal moves in his role as Chair of the House Intel Committee, he’s basically punching his own ticket to prison. So it’s not shocking to see Gowdy now complaining to the Washington Post (link) about how Nunes is conducting himself. Gowdy knows that Nunes might end up not only taking himself down, but opening the door for Gowdy’s downfall as well.
