At a time when Donald Trump is firing everyone in the United States government who’s in a position to expose his Russia scandal, it takes a special kind of courage for a prominent government employee to take a stand against him. Say hello to Dana Shell Smith, the U.S. Ambassador to Qatar, who just might be the next hero of the anti-Trump resistance after a tweet she just posted.

In the aftermath of Donald Trump firing of FBI Director James Comey, Ambassador Dana Shell Smith tweeted that she finds it “Increasingly difficult to wake up overseas to news from home, knowing I will spend today explaining our democracy and institutions” (link). Although she didn’t mention Trump or the indecent by name, she didn’t have to; it was abundantly clear what she was referring to. So now comes the question of what happens next.

Shell Smith’s eloquent tweet in condemnation of Trump’s actions stands in sharp contrast to Trump’s own tweets (link), which often consists of words that barely even fit together.

Dana Shell Smith was first appointed to the position of U.S. Ambassador to Qatar by President Obama in 2014, but Donald Trump has obviously kept her in the position up to now. She had to be aware that the tweet could result in her own firing, but she decided to take a stand nonetheless. Thus far Trump has fired James Comey, Sally Yates, and Preet Bharara among others in an attempt at preventing his own scandals from being exposed. But at some point he can’t simply fire everyone. In any case, Dana Shell Smith just made herself an American hero. Help fund Palmer Report
