We’ve all known all along that Donald Trump was behind his son’s Trump Tower meeting with Russian government representatives who were illegally offering dirt on Hillary Clinton – but now there’s a witness willing to confirm as much. CNN reported tonight that Michael Cohen witnessed Trump hearing about the meeting in advance and signing off on it. So how did Trump respond to the news? By thanking Kim Jong Un. No, really.

Donald Trump quickly sent Rudy Giuliani on cable news to try to discredit Michael Cohen as a witness, in what ended up being one of Giuliani’s most unhinged television performances to date. But Trump himself remained quiet, until he posted this tweet just before midnight: “The Remains of American Servicemen will soon be leaving North Korea and heading to the United States! After so many years, this will be a great moment for so many families. Thank you to Kim Jong Un.”

Not one thing that Donald Trump has claimed about Kim Jong Un has turned out to be true, so we’ll see if there ends up being any validity to this latest claim. But what’s mind blowing is that after Trump was exposed for having treasonously plotted with the Russians during the election, his very next move was to publicly thank Kim Jong Un of all people.

Maybe this was a pre-scheduled tweet that just ended up being a victim of bad timing. Or maybe Donald Trump and his team thought this tweet would serve as an effective distraction from the Trump Tower treason story that was playing out. In any case, this all just keeps getting more surreal.
