For his worsening erraticism, Donald Trump has a consistent habit of going so far out of his way to preemptively fight against bombshell stories that are about to surface about him, he ends up telegraphing that they’re coming. His most explosive and angry pushback has been in relation to his Trump-Russia scandal. This has proven so consistently reliable that you can almost set your watch by it. Trump just tipped off that a major bombshell is about to land.

Trump jumped on Twitter this afternoon, which is fairly rare for him on a weekday afternoon, in order to begin bragging that the (notoriously illegitimate) Rasmussen poll now laughably has his approval rating at 51% (most other polls have him in the thirties or low forties). He then made a point of taking a swipe at the “ABC News/Washington Post” poll by name. Was this an attempt at revenge after ABC News aired the James Comey interview on Sunday night? A couple hours later he tipped off that his real target was the Post instead.

Trump’s subsequent tweet went like this: “States and Cities throughout our Country are being cheated and treated so badly by online retailers. Very unfair to traditional tax paying stores!” This was another clear shot at Amazon, which is owned by Jeff Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post. So Trump has now taken two unhinged and dishonest shots at the Post, from two entirely different angles, within the span of a few hours. In other words, he’s learned that the Washington Post is about to drop a major bombshell on him.

So how does Donald Trump know that things like this are coming? Hours or days before publishing a major Trump-Russia bombshell, newspapers often ask the White House if Trump wants to provide comment for the story. That tips him off that the story is coming, and then he unwittingly tips off the rest of us.
