Michael Cohen, and for that matter his attorney Lanny Davis, have been unusually quiet over the past two weeks. It’s raised questions as to whether this is simply a new PR strategy, or if it means Cohen has entered negotiations for a plea deal against Donald Trump. While we continue to wait for that answer, Cohen posted a rather odd new tweet about Trump, and it’s raising some eyebrows.

Cohen’s new tweet is in response to Omarosa’s claim in her new book that she walked in on the end of a meeting between Trump and Cohen, and that Trump was eating a piece of paper. No one is quite sure what to believe from Omarosa, as she’s proven herself to be as dishonest as Trump is. For some reason, Cohen decided to weigh in on the claim today.

Here’s what Michael Cohen tweeted: “To the many dozens of journalists who called me, questioning OMAROSA claim in her new book that POTUS @realDonaldTrump took a note from me, put it in his mouth and ate it…I saw NO such thing and am shocked anyone would take this seriously.” This was Cohen’s first political tweet in three weeks. Why break his silence over something so relatively unimportant? There are a few different explanations here.

Some are taking this as a sign that Michael Cohen has reversed course and is now trying to defend Donald Trump. We have a hard time coming to that conclusion, because this is too small of an issue. It could be that Cohen despises Omarosa and wanted to shoot down her new book. Or it could be that Cohen is indeed simply tired of being asked about the alleged incident. The only real upshot here may be that Cohen has broken his silence at all. Let’s see if he keeps talking about Trump this coming week, or if this was merely a blip.
