Let’s say you’re Donald Trump, you’ve committed treason and dozens of other crimes, the investigation into those crimes is coming closer by the day to taking you down, and the only tactic you have left is to misuse the power of the presidency to try fend it off the best you can. Now that it’s all hitting the fan this week, you’d think you’d want to stay at the White House and work overtime on trying to save yourself, right? Not so much.

Last night Donald Trump decided to run for the hills. It’s commonplace for him to head out of town to one of his golf resorts for the weekend, but he usually at least waits until the weekend. This time, according to MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin, Trump headed to his golf club in Bedminster last night, Thursday evening. This may actually tell us a lot.

Again, there’s nothing unusual about Trump heading out for a do-nothing vacation on the weekends. For that matter, based on his official schedule, he usually does next to nothing on the weekdays when he’s in the White House. But why choose this week, with everything suddenly closing in on him from all sides, to head for the hills before the week is even over?

This suggests that Donald Trump is now so flustered and/or outright frightened by the events of this week, he’s more concerned about getting away from it all than he is about staying and fighting. To be clear, when Trump is looking to hold a weekend planning session on how to deal with his scandals, he typically heads to Camp David, a place he’s acknowledged he doesn’t enjoy anyway. When he heads to one of his own golf resorts, it’s so he can sit around and do nothing. That’s where his head is this week.
