Last month we watched Donald Trump try and fail to hire one attorney to represent him in the Trump-Russia scandal after another. He started with the highly respected Emmet Flood, who turned him down, and finally ended up settling for Fox News screaming banshee Joe DiGenova, who also turned him down. Trump then announced on Twitter that he doesn’t need any new lawyers anyway. Now it turns out he has indeed hired one, and it’s already going rather poorly for him.

Yesterday an attorney named Joanna Hendon showed up in court and announced that she was representing Donald Trump. This was news to everyone, because no one had any idea Trump had hired someone. She then revealed that Trump had hired her and her firm on Wednesday. According to tweets from the Wall Street Journal, it appears she then asked the judge in the Michael Cohen case for a delay because she needs more time to figure out what’s going on.

It’s not surprising that an attorney who was just hired on Wednesday would not yet be up to speed. What is stunning is Donald Trump’s legal team is now so depleted, with John Dowd having resigned, and Ty Cobb technically being a White House lawyer, and Jay Sekulow not having any relevant experience, that Trump had to send a newly hired lawyer into court to represent his interests.

This also tells us that Donald Trump is so worried about the Michael Cohen raid, he went ahead and hired an additional attorney shortly after it took place. By the way, the attorney’s specialty is in white collar crime, which gives you a sense of what Trump fears might surface about him as a result of the Cohen raid. In any case, this latest chapter in Trump’s laugh-out-loud legal team is already off to a disastrous start.
