When British quasi-tabloid newspaper Daily Mail posted a supposed photo of Melania Trump wearing a jacket this morning that said “I really don’t care do U” while on her way to visit the immigrant kids locked in cages by her husband, we were all left to ask if this was merely a hoax. But now Melania’s own team is confirming that she really was wearing the jacket in question. It leads to the question of what on earth is going on with these people.

Jim Acosta of CNN tweeted this statement from Melania’s spokesperson just a few minutes ago: “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe.” So yeah, the First Lady of the United States really did wear a wardrobe that literally said “I really don’t care” while on her way to visit the kids being abused by her husband.

Some have suggested that this may have been an attempt at a distraction from the child camps. But that doesn’t make logical sense. The whole point of Melania’s visit to the camps was to create headlines about how the Trump administration does care. Now the headlines are that Donald Trump has kids locked in cages, and his wife doesn’t give a damn. Of course she didn’t end up visiting the child camps at all, and instead she held a misleading photo op at a nearby child shelter, because the Trump regime is all about propaganda.

This was essentially Melania Trump’s first big public appearance on her own, without Donald Trump, since her month long vanishing act. We’re left to wonder if Melania was trying to use the jacket to make a statement against Donald, and she didn’t realize that it would be seen as a statement about the immigrant kids. It’s a sign of how dysfunctional or non-functional Trump’s White House has become: either no one was in place to try to talk her out of wearing the jacket, or no one was able to talk her out of it. In any case, kids are still in cages, and the Trumps are some truly messed up people.
