With all of his defenses and excuses having failed, it’s now painfully clear that Donald Trump and his campaign treasonously conspired with foreign nations to alter the outcome of the election. So now Trump is resorting to the final tactic that guilty criminals have up their sleeve once they’ve been definitively nailed: he’s trying to find fault with the tactics that law enforcement officers used while exposing his crimes. He can’t even seem to get this part right.

It’s been widely reported this past week that after the FBI learned the Trump campaign was committing crimes against the United States, it sent an informant to speak with various members of the campaign, in the hope of gaining more details about those crimes. In the real world, this is called good old fashioned police work. In Trump’s fantasy world, it means the FBI was “spying” on his campaign.

Trump has tweeted several complaints about the informant this week, while working behind the scenes to try to expose the informant’s identity, which would put the informant’s life at risk. Today Trump tweeted this about it: “If the FBI or DOJ was infiltrating a campaign for the benefit of another campaign, that is a really big deal.” He’s right, this is a big deal, because it means the FBI and DOJ found legal grounds to investigate his campaign for criminal activity. The notion that the FBI and DOJ were somehow doing this to help Hillary Clinton is laugh-out-loud idiotic.

It’s the kind of empty-brained rhetoric that Donald Trump’s base will choose to go along with, but literally no one else will. Trump will change zero minds with this latest nonsense. Even as his presidency collapses and he’s being inched closer to a prison than ever, Trump still only cares about pandering to the bottom feeders who are already on his side. Everyone else is going to see this for what it is: Trump was committing such severe crimes during the election, the Feds felt compelled to investigate him for it – and we’ve since seen that the Feds were justified.
