Donald Trump got off to a very late start to his Twitter rant this morning. Perhaps he was left speechless after seeing images of Melania looking happier hanging out with President Obama than she’s ever looked around her husband. Perhaps Trump just wasn’t sure where to go with his ranting this morning, after his apocalyptic meltdown yesterday about a “drugged up loser.” In any case, once Trump finally did tweet something today, it became clear that he’s exasperated – and that his exasperation is getting the best of him.

Here’s what Trump finally settled on tweeting: “‘GOP Lawmakers asking Sessions to Investigate Comey and Hillary Clinton.’ Fox News. Good luck with that request!” Its the “good luck” part that gives it away. This isn’t going anywhere. Yes, a small group of Republicans in Congress from pro-Trump districts are pushing this nonsense in an effort at scoring points back home. But it’s not going to happen. Hillary Clinton and James Comey aren’t going to magically be put on trial for imaginary crimes just because Trump and a few allies are begging for it.

Trump’s tweet came off as an exasperated admission that he has no control over his party or his Attorney General, he has no ability to carry out his revenge fantasies, and he has no defenses left as his criminal scandals move in on him.

Donald Trump then tried to rebound from his accidental admission of defeat by hitting his usual low notes. He began attacking “Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd of Fake News NBC” and other favorite targets. But the reality is that he blew it with his first tweet of the morning. Now we know he’s feeling even more rattled, and hopeless about his situation, than ever.
