Last night Donald Trump posted arguably his dumbest tweet yet when he tried to attack the intelligence of NBA superstar LeBron James. After everyone from Michael Jordan to Melania Trump ended up publicly siding with LeBron today, Donald decided to try his hand at a new target: Iran. However, his tweet was such a meek and poorly worded mess, it immediately blew up in his face.

Here’s what Trump tweeted about Iran, which was mercifully short: “Iran, and it’s economy, is going very bad, and fast! I will meet, or not meet, it doesn’t matter – it is up to them!” Respondents were quick to point out that, after having questioned LeBron’s intelligence, Trump promptly screwed up and wrote “it’s” when it should have been “its” instead. But that was just the beginning of what was wrong here.

There was debate as to whether Trump meant “going very badly” or “doing very poorly,” as people struggled to figure out what Trump was even trying to say. And of course at the end he wrote “it is” after seemingly having given up trying to figure out whether it should have been “it’s” or “its.” Of course, grammar and usage are the least of this guy’s problems. Trump is upset that, after he hit Iran with sanctions under false pretenses and then tried to set up a meeting where he could declare victory, Iran isn’t interested in playing his games.

Of course in the big picture, this is all a continued attempt at a distraction on Donald Trump’s part. In the past half a day he’s tried to start a feud with a famous black person, and he’s tried to pick a fight with a nonwhite nation. These are the two racist gambits that Trump uses whenever he knows one of his criminal scandals is about to get a whole lot uglier, and he wants to change the narrative.
