So this is how it’s going to go, eh? We’ll see what else Donald Trump tries to foist on us as he positions himself for his last stand. But we now know that it’s going to center around him acting like a confused idiot. There’s no gameplan here, no strategy, just him desperately flailing, reversing course multiple times per day, and doing more to take himself down than anyone else involved. No, really.

Donald Trump tried the gambit of kissing up to Vladimir Putin in a joint press conference, either because he was that desperately in need of Putin’s help, or he’s that afraid of Putin retaliating against him. Either way, the whole thing only ended up making him look guilty in the eyes of the public, putting the “puppet” and “treason” questions front and center. Trump then spent the week trying to walk it back without actually walking it back, which didn’t work, and probably angered Putin. So at the end of the week Trump decided to invite Putin to the White House.

These aren’t the actions of a guy with a plan. Trump can’t make up his mind what he’s more afraid of, going to jail for treason, or whatever Putin is going to do to him. Trump touted Putin’s idea of turning over Michael McFaul, the former U.S. Ambassador to Russia, to the Russians for questioning. Then when all sides labeled that notion as ridiculous and treasonous, Trump backed down. This guy is flailing like a fish.

Even some of Donald Trump’s own top people are now publicly coming out against him on the Russia thing. Trump’s FBI Director Christopher Wray is directly contradicting him over it. Trump’s Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats is taking shots at him over it. Trump can’t fire them all. Or maybe he can, but under the circumstances, that would only serve to weaken him further. We don’t know what Trump will do next, because he has no gameplan. This is as boneheaded as it is absurd – and even he seems to know his time is short.
